The Dunham Teacher Certification Workshop is designed for dance teachers/educators who wish to become certified Dunham Technique teachers. The curriculum covers technique, pedagogy, history and theory. This artist/scholar program is an exciting and rigorous process. Dancers engage in a yearly hybrid process which includes 5 months of online classes and a week-long in-person workshop in the summer, followed by our one week Dunham Technique Intensive. The program usually requires 3 to 4 years to complete all course work and fully develop the culminating portfolio.

The 2022 Dunham Teacher Certification Workshop opens at 5 pm on Sunday, July 17th, with a Dunham Technique master dance class. The master class (included in the price of the Teacher Certification Workshop) and the Unity Circle, bringing the group together in preparation for embarking on a week of high-intensity focus on Dunham Technique. During the Workshop, we work on embodiment of the technique as well as the history, theory, philosophy and pedagogy. The workshop ends the following Saturday July 23rd. During that afternoon, all participants will be given individual feedback. Those who are attending for the first time (1st Year students) will be informed as to whether they have been accepted as a candidate to become a certified Dunham Technique teacher.

Students who have completed the application process and been invited into the Certification Process will be sent a secure link to provide payments. Please direct any questions about certification to info@dunhamcertification.org.

The 2022 Intensive, tentatively scheduled for Monday July 25th to Friday the 29th, is five days of dancing Dunham. There will be 5 Dunham based classes per day including Dunham and Dunham based Haitian, West African, Jazz, Modern and more! It is open to the public and does not require previous Dunham training. It is ideal for the dancer who wants an introduction to Dunham. FUN! FUN! FUN! All classes will be taught by certified Dunham teachers and will count toward certification hours.

For those on the certification path, this is an important opportunity to work toward embodiment of the technique as well as accrue required hours. For this reason, we encourage those attending the Certification Workshop to also attend the Intensive.

Embedded in the Intensive, we offer the Educator Track. This is designed for dance educators interested in learning more about the teaching of Dunham Technique, and the history, theory and philosophies of the technique. It is ideal for those who would like to include Dunham more knowledgeably in their curriculum.

The Intensive also includes a Youth Track with programming for students ages 7-12. IDTC will not provide Youth Track programming in 2022 due to the pandemic.

IDTC has also partnered with the University of Southern Indiana to offer housing and meal plans to all conference participants. Housing is available in the USI Residence Hall dormitories with Single ($30 per person per night) and Shared ($36 per person per night) Rooms in two-bedroom suites. Meal plans are available for $34 per person per day. We strongly encourage all Conference attendees to reside in the University of Southern Indiana Residence Hall Dorms to minimize interactions with additional people in support of the health and safety of all who are present.
