2026 Dunham Teacher Certification Workshop
Online: January 25 - June 28
In-Person: July 12 - 18
Please note: THE IN-PERSON WORKSHOP IS FOR DANCERS already accepted in the 2026 Dunham certification process.
The Dunham Teacher Certification Workshop is designed for dance teachers/educators who wish to become certified Dunham Technique teachers. The curriculum covers technique, pedagogy, history and theory. This artist/scholar program is an exciting and rigorous process. Dancers engage in a yearly hybrid process which includes 5 months of online classes and a week-long in-person workshop in the summer, followed by our one week Dunham Technique Intensive. For those on the certification path, the Intensive is a crucial opportunity toward embodiment of the technique. For this reason, we encourage those attending the Certification Workshop to also attend the Intensive.
The program usually requires 3 to 4 years to complete all course work and an additional 1-2 years to fully develop the culminating portfolio and the teaching practicum.
The 2026 Dunham Teacher Certification in-person Workshop opens on Sunday, July 12, with a Dunham Technique master dance class. The master class (included in the price of the Teacher Certification Workshop) and the Opening Ceremony bring the group together in preparation for embarking on a week of high-intensity focus on Dunham Technique. During the Workshop, we work on embodiment of the technique as well as the history, theory, philosophy and pedagogy. The workshop ends the following Saturday July 18.
Please note: THE IN-PERSON WORKSHOP IS FOR DANCERS already accepted in the 2026 Dunham certification process.

2026 Dunham Foundations
Monday July 13 - Saturday July 18
For dancers who are interested in certification
This year, for the second time, we will offer a new program called Dunham Foundations to be held the week prior to the Intensive, July 13-18, 2026. This programming is intended for dancers who are interested in certification, including those who are applying for 2027 and those who wish to apply in the future. Space is limited, so early registration is advised. This week of Dunham Technique classes along with a few folkloric classes and some lectures will help those interested in certification ready themselves for the Intensive and the audition.
We recognize that it is hard to find Dunham training and we offer Dunham Foundations to address this. Dunham Foundations is optional but highly recommended for applicants.

2026 Dunham Technique Intensive
Monday July 20 - Friday July 24
Open to the Public
The Dunham Technique Intensive is a 5-day public Dunham Technique immersion experience. Dunham based classes will be offered each day – including 3 levels of Dunham Technique and 2 levels of Dunham based Haitian, West African, Afro Cuban, Modern and more! The Intensive is open to the public and does not require previous Dunham training. It is ideal for seasoned Dunham dancers, experienced dancers in other genres who want to explore Dunham Technique, and beginner dancers who want an introduction to Dunham. All classes will be taught by certified Dunham teachers.
Embedded in the Intensive, we offer the Educator Track. This is designed for dance educators interested in learning more about the teaching of Dunham Technique, and the history, theory and philosophies of the technique. It is ideal for those who would like to include Dunham more knowledgeably in their curriculum.
During the Intensive, dancers will have the opportunity to experience drumming, yoga, films, social time and more!
