Jeanne Speier
Ms. SPEIER studied the Katherine Dunham Technique in the East St. Louis Performing Arts Training Center with Tommy Gomez, Archie Savage, Norman Davis, Lenwood Morris and Darryl Braddix. In New York she took classes with Lavinia Williams, Pearl Reynolds and Charles Moore. She performed at Carnegie Hall as a part of the Dunham Gala in 1975 at Carnegie Hall when Katherine Dunham received the Albert Schweitzer Music Award.
Jeanne Speier studied with Miss Dunham at the Annual Dunham Dance Technique Seminars, where Miss Dunham encouraged her to continue her study of dance in Bali, Indonesia. Jeanne now resides in Cincinnati and is retired and is focused on learning Spanish. She spent a year in Bogotá, Colombia studying Spanish and learning the Colombian Salsa and Bachata dance styles.
She continues her affiliation with The Katherine Dunham Centers for the Arts and Humanities in East St. Louis and participates in their yearly seminars teaching Balinese and Latin rhythms dance classes.
