Sukie Keita

Sukie Keita is a social practice dance artist and educator who has inspired people to dance for decades. She began her performance career in New York City, appearing in an eclectic range of productions including an off-Broadway house musical and a music video with Whitney Houston.

Taking classes in the Dunham Technique at a teacher-training conference in 2000 changed the course of her career and she became hooked on the Dunham Way of Life. Earning an MFA in Dance at the University Of Arizona, Sukie delved into the spaces between modern and jazz, broadening her study of West African dance and attending the Dunham Technique Seminar in East St. Louis, Illinois. She performed with several dance companies in Arizona including OTO Dance, New Articulations, and Thom Lewis Dance.

She founded two public school dance programs and earned her Dunham Technique teaching certification in 2012 after establishing the BA Dance Education and the BA Dance programs at Grand Canyon University.

Today, she serves as portfolio chair with the Institute for Dunham Technique Certification and is pursuing an EdD at Arizona State University. Sukie lives and teaches dance in Phoenix and continues to create, produce, and consult through www.Sukie.Dance.
